Church of SS. Cosmas and Damian

St. Paul Miki and Companions

Martyrs

History: Saint Paul was born in Japan between 1564 and 1566. Entering the Society of Jesus, he preached the gospel to the people with great success. But when persecution against Catholics became oppressive, he was arrested along with twenty-five others. After enduring torment and derision they were finally taken to Nagasaki and there suffered crucifixion in 1597 on the vigil of this day. Their feast is celebrated on February 6th.

Prayer:
God our Father, source of strength for all your saints, you led Paul Mike and his companions through the suffering of the cross to the joy of eternal life. May their prayers give us the courage to be loyal until death in the profession of our faith. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
