In 1997,
Joe and I went on a pilgrimage to Mexico City to Our Lady of
Guadalupe. While we were on this holy trip, our faith was deeply
strengthened. We learned how much we, all God's people, are loved by Our
Blessed Mother. While there, we saw this beautiful statue in a religious
goods store. Joe said how beautiful it would be in our new church.
We came
home in February. In April of that year, Joe was diagnosed with third
stage colon cancer. The strength we had received from that trip helped us
get through his illness, radiation, chemotherapy and death.
Now in
thankfulness to God for his many blessings, I found the statue of the
Immaculate Conception in Mexico City and purchased it, on the Feast of the
Immaculate Conception, for our new church in memory of Joe Rubino, a man
who loved us all, God's Church, so very much.
Our
prayer is that anyone who gazes upon her beautiful face will see the love
and know how very much we are taken care of. We are wrapped in Our
Mother's arms as she takes us to her Son and we can make it through
anything. ~ Pearl
