St. Margaret of Cortona

History: Saint Margaret of Cortona was born in 1247 in Laviano, Tuscany, Italy. She died February 22, 1297. She was canonized May 16, 1728 by Pope Benedict XIII. Her feast Day is February 22nd.

Interesting Facts:

Before Margaret was seventeen years of age, she had given herself up to a life of indulgence. In no time, her reputation in the town of Laviano was one not to be envied.

After living several years as a mistress of a nobleman and bearing his child, he was mysteriously murdered. Upon finding his body, she realized it was time to change her ways.

Later she founded institutions of charity that helped the poor and the suffering.

Margaret spent twenty-nine years performing acts of severe penances, twenty of them as a Third Order Franciscan.

Seek her powerful intercession in times of sexual temptation.
