Prayer for Peace

Lord, we stand before You speechless, unable to comprehend the tragedy that has struck our nation, or the reasons for so much senseless violence. We stand humbly before the mystery of Your holy will.

We pray for the many victims of this tragedy, and for their families. Lord, bring them healing and comfort in their hour of grief.

We pray for all the people of our nation. Lord, help us to be peacemakers rather than to seek vengeance. Help us to transform the anger in our hearts, so that we may not become like those who committed this violence.

We remember, Lord, that You have commanded us to love our enemies, and to pray for our persecutors. And so we pray for the perpetrators of these terrible acts. Transform their hearts of stone, O Lord, into hearts of flesh.

Lord, our faith has been shaken. Still, we stand before You today and say:

We believe. We believe.

A Prayer for Peace

God our Father,
maker and lover of peace,
remove hatred and fear from our midst
and wipe away our tears.
Protect us from people of violence
and keep us safe from weapons of hate.
Restore tranquility and peace to our lives
as we strive to establish your law of justice and love.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
