Election Year Faithful Citizenship from the USCCB

We strongly urge all parishioners to register, to become informed on key issues, and to vote. The Church does not support or oppose any candidate, but seeks to focus attention on the moral and human dimensions of issues. In a democracy, loving our neighbor and caring for the least among us means supporting leaders and policies that promote the common good and protect society’s most vulnerable members. For more information, please read about Faithful Citizenship at www.faithfulcitizenship.org.

Helping Homeless Families

Nourished in the Eucharist gathering to go forth and live as disciples, we find a world full of God’s children in need of loving care. Within our cluster of Resurrection, St. Rita and Ss. Cosmas and Damian, one of the ways we “live the Eucharist” is through hosting homeless families through the Interfaith Hospitality Network. IHN is a network of congregations that provides shelter, meals and support to homeless families. IHN guest families come to the St. Rita site about four times per year, and many volunteers are needed during that time to provide loving hospitality. St. Rita’s IHN organizers write, To help the host week move smoothly, approximately 35-50 volunteers are needed to help set up beds, cook part of the meals served, act as hosts for an evening meal, spend time entertaining the guest children or stay overnight to make the guests comfortable and welcome. Volunteers are not asked for more then 2 hours for one day during the host week, except for the overnight hosts. But they have the easiest job, they get to sleep (cots and sleeping quarters are provided).
If you are interested in learning more or volunteering to “live the mass” by caring for IHN families when they are in our cluster, please email paulakampf@gmail.com or call Kathy LaMancusa at (440-248-1058).

Altar Server Recruitment

All young adults, grade level 5 and above, are invited to consider active involvement in parish life as an Altar Server. The ministry is in service to the Lord, the Liturgy of the Church, and the parish community. Ministry training will be announced at a later date.

Adult Altar Servers

Adult men and women of the parish are asked to consider their involvement as Altar Server for particular liturgical celebrations of the parish; namely, daily morning mass, funerals and weddings. The parish cannot ask children in the day school to leave class on a regular basis, and needs others’ assistance for serving the prayer needs of the parish community.

Altar Servers Needed

Ss. Cosmas and Damian’s Acolyte ministry is looking for children and adults starting in Grade 5 who would like to join in serving the community as altar servers. We are looking for children and adults to take part in this ministry. Since the parish will be closing its school, we are looking for adults to serve daily masses and funerals. If you or your child would like to serve the parish, please feel free to call the rectory and sign up. Training will begin in June 2007. A specific date will be sent out to those who want to serve. Thank you for your attention.—Justin Pearce (Altar Server Coordinator)

Eagle Project: Drew Horvath

My name is Drew Horvath. Most of you know me as an altar server and a musician with the choir during special events. I have been a parishioner at Ss. Cosmas & Damian since I was four years old. I am writing to inform you about my Eagle Scout Project. I started my scout journey in 2nd grade when I was 7 years old. I am turning 15 years old this month. Currently I am working on my Eagle Scout Project. My project consists of landscaping the area around the multi-purpose room. I will be using landscaping materials such as a thatcher, landscaping tarp(s), hoe, rake, etc. Shrubbery will be planted to beautify the area. The shrubs that will most likely be planted are forsythias, azaleas, and rhododendrons. Mulch or decorative rock will be laid down over the area to cover up the dirt and the tarp. This project will only be completed if I have your help. Monetary donations of any sort will be greatly appreciated. This project will be completed, but it will be much easier if I have your support. Donations can be forwarded to me by placing an envelope in the Sunday collection basket labeled with my name and Eagle Scout project or by meeting with me after mass in the gathering area throughout the month of July. Anyone who helps will be thanked with much appreciation. Thank you. If you have any questions, please contact me at: (330-425-4980) or tigershark1@netzero.net.

Faithful Citizenship

For the Christian people of America conversion to the Gospel means to revise “all the different areas and aspects of life, especially those related to the social order and the pursuit of the common good.” It will be especially necessary “to nurture the growing awareness in society of the dignity of every person and, therefore, to promote in the community a sense of the duty to participate in political life in harmony with the Gospel.”—Pope John Paul II, The Church in America (Ecclesia in America), No. 27. Faithful Citizenship Prayer

Gracious and loving God, let your Spirit be with us today. Hear our prayers, and increase in us the will to follow your Son Jesus. Help us to draw on the resources of our faith as we use the opportunities of our democracy to shape a society more respectful of the life, dignity, and rights of the human person, especially the poor and vulnerable. We ask this through Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.-USCCB, Forming Conscience for Faithful Citizenship. From the Desk of Father John

It’s the 4th Sunday of Easter and we continue to celebrate the fullness of the Season! Alleluia! It is Good Shepherd Sunday and we pray for those who stand with us, care for us and protect us. Like Christ, let us be attentive to all in our lives!
Music Director Rob Keshock was able to schedule a full diagnostic check on the sound system in church this past week. We all know how IMPORTANT amplified sound is for our worship space and over the past years we have experienced both highs and lows of the system, as well as many a comment on how well or not it is working. The company that installed the present sound system is no longer available for maintenance of the system, so, we have had to look for another sound company willing to service this system. We cannot afford to start all over again. Prayerfully, we will begin to hear the changes!
I met with Design 2013’s NEWEST Chairperson – Renee Harsa in preparation for our Annual Nite Under the Stars Parish Party AND Fundraising event. A meeting is scheduled for Monday evening. Renee has some great NEW ideas for the Party. Many, many thanks to Jill Ziegler for her commitment to Chair this Event the past two years! By the way, do you have September 27th on your calendar for this year’s Parish Party?
Our Parish’s Wonderful Pre-Cana Team excelled this past week hosting 15 couples to be married this year! In prayer and spirit and camaraderie and fellowship the couples were “treated” to a real learning and living experience. Thanks to Lead Couple – Joe and Karen Lukas and the AMAZING Team!
Our sponsored Life in the Spirit Seminar started last Sunday night and was well received and continues this Sunday and for three more Sundays. Check the Bulletin for dates. This Sunday the topic is “Salvation.” Additional topics are “New Life,” “Receive God’s Gifts” and the final “Pentecost Mass.” Join the Seminar on Sundays at 5pm in Church. Thanks to Gerry and Grace Wrobel for their leadership.
It’s Generations of Faith TIME again and NEXT WEEKEND we gather once more and celebrate the EASTER STORY in word and fellowship. Are you signed up? Join us Sunday afternoon OR Monday evening.
Youth Ministry is packing up the goodies for the West Side Catholic Center in our hands-on PROJECT on Monday night. Youth interested in joining us on Monday nights, please give Paula a call. It’s up to us live the Good News. Feeding and caring for the needy are one of our works of mercy!
Any “handyman” out there willing to offer some time and talent and treasure in helping us caulk the School building windows? I know it is thankless task, but necessary. Give Deacon Ed a call at (ext. 429).
Many thanks to each one of you for your generosity in the Sunday collection. With your stewardship commitment we are able to meet our expenses. Thanks!

If you or someone you know has a crafty talent and would like to be in our show, please don’t hesitate to stop by the parish office and pick up a registration form. The cost of a space is $25.00 for a six foot table and two chairs. Additional tables are $5.00 each. Come and be a part of another successful craft show this year! Contact Jackie Cackowski at (330-468-2194, ext. 22).
